Before I move forward with creating the final prototype next week I wanted to spend some time developing the name and branding for the product. Up until now I have used the name “In Tune” for the product but I wanted to explore some alternatives to give myself more options. To this end I filled a page of my sketchbook with words associated with my product and picked out a few which I felt best summarised the project. Ultimately the word “Attunement” began to grow on me over time as it hinted at both the user growing more comfortable with their guitar maintenance skills and the guitar itself being tuned. Later I shortened the word to give my product its name: Attune.

Having come up with a name I considered the style and typography I would use to present the word as a logo. I looked at the logos used by companies like Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker to get a feel for how guitars are branded and then started to use my brand name in a range of fonts and styles inspired by that branding. After many different iterations I settled upon the logo shown below. I felt that the sloping text was a nice reference to the angled logos used by Fender and Gibson while the simple font lent itself well to the style of my guide. With these final pieces in place I am ready to start making my product this week.
